Cognos Lab Session: Automation In Action – Projects, Upgrades, and Going to Cloud

June 22, 2023

For the past 3 years, our virtual Cognos labs have supplied companies with hands-on experiences that simplify their analytics and allow BI teams to uncover the data to make informed business strategies and decisions.

This year we continue our mission to provide the most accurate and reliable implementations possible so you can get the most value and performance out of your projects, upgrades, and journey to the cloud.

We also have a very special presentation from guest speaker Jack Esselink, entitled “Embracing Data Ethics In Business Intelligence.”

This presentation navigates the fundamental aspects of data ethics, the evolving standards governing its application, and its crucial role in the domain of Business Intelligence (BI). Data ethics relates to the responsible management, analysis, and dissemination of data, ensuring fairness, transparency, privacy, and integrity. For practitioners using Cognos Business intelligence software, understanding data ethics is imperative. Due to the vast amount of data handled and the influential decisions made based on this data, maintaining an ethical standard is not only a regulatory requirement but also a moral obligation. The presentation provides actionable guidance on how to embed ethical considerations in day-to-day operations with Cognos, and why doing so bolsters trust, promotes responsible innovation, and enhances business credibility.

Jack Esselink is a seasoned software industry veteran with over two decades of experience, including tenures at IBM and Cognos. He has cultivated a deep understanding of data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and ethics. Leveraging this knowledge, he currently helms his own company, Studio Pulpit, where he captivates audiences with insightful keynote speeches, informative lectures, and interactive workshops on data analytics, AI, and ethics. Beyond his entrepreneurial pursuits, Jack also shares his expertise academically as a part-time lecturer in Business Ethics at the Windesheim University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. This dual role allows him to stay abreast of industry trends and educational perspectives, reinforcing his commitment to advancing the ethical use of technology in business. Jack’s multifaceted career underscores his dedication to enlightening and empowering others in the ethical implications of data-driven decision-making.
